Turquoise Cactus Card

I colored the adorable cactus and pot from Pink & Main's Sticky Note stamp set (P&M) with Nuvo alcohol markers (S). We chose colors that matched with patterned paper from P&M's Beach Babe paper pad (P&M).

Since this card is for my daughter to use she helped pick out the papers and colors. She chose this cute striped paper I had left-over from a different project. Thankfully there was still enough left to use for this card.

I die cut the card base and the yellow scallop piece with The Paper Cut's Scallop Circle Card Making Die (PC). The card base is Textured Dark Cardstock (HL), the yellow paper is from Entirely Textures Paper pad (HL), and the turquoise gemstones are also from the Paper Studio (HL).

To make the yellow scallop piece I folded a 4x4" piece of paper in half. I lined up the fold mark to the edge of the card making die, making sure it lined up to the fold line but not any further.

After it is cut you should have an intact scallop circle and the 4x4" piece has a perfect scallop circle cut out of it.

Getting a good placement for the scallop in the patterned paper is a little trickier but not too difficult. I didn't think to take pictures as I was in the middle of the process but I'll try to remember to next time!

I cut the patterned paper to 2 1/2 x 6 1/2" (Tip, don't cut off the top or bottom of the patterned paper yet.) Line up the patterned paper on the front of the card leaving approximately 1/8" borders on either side.

Once it's in place on the front of the card, line up the card making die to the edge line on the card base, exactly how it was when it was first cut. The patterned paper will not be lined up with the edge of the die. Tape the patterned paper to the die and remove it from the card base, then die cut. This method removes the part of the scallop that you need it to.

(It leaves an 1/8" border along the top and bottom of the card, but the scallop itself lines up exactly with the card base.)

Now is when I lined the patterned paper back up on the front of the card (you could use temporary adhesive if necessary). I turned it over and ran a pencil mark where the edge of the card meets the patterned paper on either end, and then cut both ends 1/8" smaller than the pencil line. I edged both the patterned paper and yellow scallop circle with Peacock Feathers distress ink (S).

I glued the scallop circle and patterned paper to the card. I used Pop Up Glue Dots (HL) to adhere the cactus and pot to the card. Finally, I added turquoise gemstones in the corners of the card and on the cactus pot.

Blessings,

Julie
